HYATT REGENCY INDIAN WELLS
RESORT & SPA
(Formerly Hyatt Grand Champions)

LOCATION:  Indian Wells, California

TIMELINE:  5-Year Continuous Modernization Campaign

PROJECT SCALE:  530 Keys, including 35 Luxury Suites, 43 Private Villas, Public Pre-Function Spaces, Corridors, Ballroom Exterior Awnings, and Event Carpet Rollouts

TASK: Comprehensive FF&E Procurement, Design Assist, On-Site Field Coordination, & Financial Oversight

BUDGET:  $17,000,000 Total Capital Investment

THE CHALLENGE & EVOLUTION: Brought onto the turnkey design-and-build contract team during Year 1, the initial mandate focused strictly on streamlined procurement for property-wide commodity rollouts. However, as the 5-year modernization program evolved, the role rapidly expanded into specialized vendor optimization, design coordination, and absolute field and financial oversight. When the principal partner transitioned overseas, direct administration of jobsite operations was also transferred to Lorrie’s care. Backed by full signing privileges to directly pay vendors and contractors, Lorrie served as the constant on-site monitor overseeing all contractors and project execution while maintaining seamless communication with the partner.

IN THE FIELD & GLOBAL LOGISTICS: Executing this $17M transformation required intensive, hands-on tactical oversight to manage complex, overlapping structural construction hurdles. The extensive scope encompassed complete guestroom redos, repairing balcony sliding doors when necessary, bathroom tile and granite deep cleaning, reworking some shower enclosures, changing to barn doors at the villa bathrooms, and executing full structural modifications within the 5th-floor suites—including removing interior walls to install double doors and replacing existing traditional closets with custom modern open-concept closet systems. Beyond managing teams for painting, as well as the widespread installation of carpet, tile, LVT flooring, baseboards, corner guards, drapery, wallcoverings, and furnishings, Lorrie coordinated intricate logistical sequences—such as managing guestroom shower plumbing repairs that required punching through corridor walls ahead of the painting, wallcovering, and carpet rollouts. Sourcing a portable crane that was required to systematically move from room to room allowed the team to install exceptionally heavy, custom-fabricated freestanding soaking tubs into gutted villa bathrooms.

Globally, operations required traveling directly to manufacturing facilities in Cebu to review and audit the 5th-floor suite casegood models. When a rushed international packing job subsequently left finishes compromised upon arrival, Lorrie enforced strict contractual compliance, compelling the manufacturer to fund dedicated furniture restoration specialists to remediate the finishes on-site without delaying the handover window.
